This Week As a Vet Receptionist
The bad: A woman called and said sternly to me, “It is disgusting how much money people put into their animals when hundreds of unborn babies are aborted every single day in this country.”
Um, then why do you have a dog if you find them so worthless? And also abortion and veterinary care are two completely unrelated topics. I can’t think of a single way to connect the two of them together.
The touching: Another woman called to have her elderly dog put to sleep. She told me that wanted a private cremation where the ashes are returned to her in a cedar urn. The reason? So that when she dies, she can be buried with her dog’s ashes.
I was speechless. So beautiful. She’s going to be in my prayers for sure in the coming days, as this grief process will certainly be difficult.
The happy: A police officer called to pay for the veterinary bills for the care for dog whose dad was a man who is homeless. How beautiful is that?
Essentially, people are good deep down. And in those moments when you can’t see it, just pretend like you’re talking to their sweet, innocent furry family member, instead; it makes it easier to get through the conversation.
